Re-assembly Questions about Powerhead Gasket, and shift rod lubrication

I'm putting the power head back on tonight.

1.I'm putting the shift lever back in and the top of shift rod with linkage. I know grease goes in the lever. What should I put on the rod going through the housing. Same grease? 3 in 1 machine oil? Something else?

2. Do I need gasket sealant for the gasket that goes under the exhaust inner tube, and also the powerhead gasket? I have Permatex #2
