I had a problem with the out drive not working. I read several post's on this site(very helpful) Removed the clutch and worm gear with no problem and checked to see if motor would run. It did'nt..... smaked it with a hammer and it ran great? New motor in my future?! Anyway, now how do I put the worm gear and clutch back together?? I think I can do this but seems there is a sequence of replacement that I am not smart enough to figure out!

Welcome to iBoats stringer bro! Don't let the 'Black Anchor Gang' intimidate you. They bark alot but they're harmless. :D What year/HP drive ya got?

First tilt the drive up and block it. Then remove the tilt quadrant (large 1/4 round gear on the drive). Install the clutch pack and cover, then start the worm gear into the tube. Don't forget to put the nylon washer on the end first. Turn the drive gear (round gear on the drive side of the clutch housing) to feed the worm gear all the way in. It may take a little wiggling to get the slot engaged into the hammer-blow coupling. Once it's all the way in push the retainer cap in and install the snap ring. Make sure the o-ring groove and the seating surface in the tube are clean with no nicks or gouges and use a new o-ring.

Thank you for your response! Sorry but although I have been boating most my life this stuff is all forien to me!
(tilt quadrant (large 1/4 round gear on the drive?)What is that exactly?

" Don't forget to put the nylon washer on the end first"

I did not see a nylon washer when I removed the worm gear.

I never removed the shaft that the worm gear lives on but do recall looking inside and seeing what could be a nylon washer? is that what your talking about?
