Re: Johnson 50. Looking for more info on it.

Hey all,
I posted yesterday for year of motor. Fireman was good enough to help out with that. I am still looking for as much info as possible with tihs motot. Is it considered a good, strong motor? What kind of plugs, fuel filter do I need for it?

Here is the model number and the SN for it:
mod #: J50BELCNR
s/n #: J5668537
Thanks in advance.

GreatSouthBay_Boater

------------------------------------------------
- shoulda stayed on land.

I would buy a OEM Manual for this motor. I'll save you time and money while answering most questions you have about it, other than longevity, prop selection, how strong...you get the point. The manual should be first thing to get .....as i have learned..this place is a great resource but having a manual will be one of the first things you'll be told here...and it is great advise...

You definitely need a manual. Selco are very general and to me very unhelpful. Like DEIFan says get the OMC. It will pay for itself in short order and answer all your questions. Less than a half hour shop labor time. There was nothing wrong with this engine. If you had one from the early 70's with the hydroelectric shift I would try to talk you out of it since parts seem to be scarce. Wait a minute, that engine is terrible. You better ship it to me immediately since I've been looking for a good 50.

Haha, That's good Fireman.
Okay, I was mainly looking for info such as: cylinder? stroke? plugs? Or any personal stories from people regarding this motor. Thanks. I will get a manual from the library and read up on it.

GreatSouthBay_Boater

-------------------------------------------------
- shoulda stayed on land

All that info is in the factory manual. I wouldn't buy any other manual after having one for my motor.

Hey
Stop by Lindenhurst outboard and ask Ralph for a manual or check out his website "theoutboardwizard.com" for ordering manual and parts. Where are you on the bay?
