re: new here

Hi, I recently purchased a 1988 Bluefin Bass Dominator 1609 with a 35 hp Force Marine outboard. I have 2 questions for anyone familiar with this package, to me the 35 hp motor really lacks power, the boat isnt all that big or heavy but the motor just doesnt have any punch to it. With the throttle wide open it just seems to flatten out, no missing or surging it just goes flat... with just one person and normal gear rods and tackle , I did get up to about 25 mph, and with two people it was a struggle to reach 15 mph and the thing drank gas like it was going out of style. Also - I opened the motor cover and there is no kind of intake cover on the carburetor.. is this normal? If there is supposed tobe some kind of intake cover where might a person find a replacement? Thanks for any input!

Re: new here

I have a 25hp Chrysler that, after fixing all the other problems, acted that same way. A guy on this forum (Nordin) suggested that I check to see if the butterfly in the carb was opening all the way. It was only opening about 60%. I would never have thought to look for something so simple.

Mine had a set screw adjustment in the tiller arm that prevented the throttle from opening all the way, I have no idea why anyone would adjust it to only allow for 60% full power, but someone did.
