Hello, This site has been VERY helpful so far. Thanks in advance. <br />I have an '84 Merc. 50hp and just put the LU back on after getting ht ewater pump installed. I got it to run while on land usinand it is not peeing out of the side port. I took off the hose and it's clear; I can blow thru it and no blockage. When it runs, there is little water coming out of the inside of the prop. I don't want to take the LU back down but if I must, I must. You probably dropped or damaged the little rubber insert between the water pump and the tube.

Either that or have you still got the rubber sleeve that sits on the outside of the driveshaft immediately above the impeller housing? Whichever it is you're still going to have to drop the L/U to check.

Well unless you have an x-ray machine I think you will need to remove the L/U and check what is going on. In addition to the above, also pull the top housing off the pump and check that the impeller key is in place on the drive shaft. They sometimes dislodge without you realising it.

Turned out that the gear inside the motor where the LU spline goes up into is sheared. Motor is crap. Thanks for your help though fellas,<br /><br />----------------------------------------------<br />- should have stayed on land.
