AAAAAhhhhhhh it is nice to be over here instead of the Force section. I just bought a Johnson GT 150 to replace my force 125. It's a 89 with all controls and wiring. Is this a Job I can do myself and do it right. I don't have any experiance with this. The only thing I know I can do is get the GT hung on the back of the boat. Any and all sugestions are apriciated. Thanks, Chris

Re: re-power force to Johnso

I just bought a 50 hp mercury, just like your, with wirings and controls. I installed it by myself 100% I actually had to do some special boat work to install the remote control box, and I am not a mechanich and didn't know anything about boat motors eather, Perhaps You will have to figure it out by your self, just like I did, what I am tring to say is that it is possible. And at the end You might have a couple of questions that I am sure people around will be glad to help, just like they did with me. GOOD LUCK
Bill

Thanks for the advice, I called my brothers mechanic yesterday and he said he'd do it for 125 so that's were it is. He's also going to go over the entire engine make sure its all good. These Good motors aren't cheap so I opted to have it done. Thanks all. Chris

Chris were you having a lot of problems with your Force or just starting to get a little paranoid?
Having a Force engine seems to bring a lot of pressure with it just from all the negative comments thrown at it and the general controversy of opinion. Mine has run great on about 30 outings now and I find myself wondering if I'm the only one with a bit of luck or a freak of nature or is it just about to completely blow to smithereens? Frank C. sure has some good comments regarding the Force engines and what/when they had issues problems that haunted them and their reputation. Sort of reminds of Detroit's big (3) trying to outlive their past....no easy feat I guess.
Anwhooooo, just asking....was your motor a piece of poop?

Re: re-power force to Johnso

No the motor was probably OK, I bought the boat on eBay and the seller rushed me and I took him for his word that it was a good running motor, I got it home and did a compression test and one cylinder had a hole in the piston, so I got another powerhead off eBay and put it on and it sounds and runs great except at wot then it cuts down, I did some adjusting and almost got that solved and decided that when I go out camping I want to enjoy my time not worry about a engine, I'm not very outboard savy and Frank did help allot but with a little more adjustment and the timing done I think the motor will run good, its got right at 129 pounds of compression on all cyl, nice and even and actually puers like a kitten. The problem with the Johnson was the powerpacks, got it home wend and took it out last night. WOW, what a difference.
