I currently have a 1971 Evinrude 50hp on my 19ft fiberform. It has the type of motor mount that clamps over the transome and and 2 lower mounting bolts. I am putting a 1967 Evinrude 80hp in its place. The mounting is with 4 threw bolts and no clamp over.
So I am looking for tips on how to locate the the bracket for the new holes and bolts. The lower mounting bracket holes are slotted for maybe 1 1/2 inch vertical adjustment but the top holes are fixed. I dont want to blow this so any tips would be helpful. Also, what should I seal up the old bolt holes with? Also I plan on using stainless bolts threw out, but do I need anything else inside the boat to support the motor beyond washers? I have seen hack job installs where people have drilled threw angle iron to spreads out the load. Any advice here? Thanks for any help. Ray

That looks like a decent Idea. I have some scrap aluminum plate I bet I can cut out and make one similar.

If you need to seal holes start by epoxying in enough 1/2" hardwood dowel to fill the wood parts (usually about 2"), then use 4200 or gelcoat to fill out to surface level at both ends. Don't try to fill the whole hole with 4200 or any other sealer product.

Sorry, JB read your question better than I did. I was saying the use 4200 to seal the NEW bolts not old holes. JB's method is a good one for filling the old holes if needed.

wood dowel, got it. As far as epoxy goes, just any old stuff like JB weld or similar ok? sounds like I have some materials to source up. Thanks
