re-profiling VP Duo's

Any idea what instructions I should be giving to a prop shop to take some pitch out of what I think are VP B6's to get them closer to the pitch of a B5? Do I just tell them that and they'll have the specs to match the B5 profile? Or should I be asking for them to take out so many inches of pitch? *scratching head*

Re: re-profiling VP Duo's

That's a tough way to go about it...although I understand the cost factor, the problem starts when we get the Idea to "reduce" pitch. The blades are cast with the hub at a specific angle for a specific pitch, so when we try to reduce pitch we end-up removing a certain amount of efficiency.
It would take a shop that is pretty good in understanding how to reinstall the efficiency without going back up in pitch...this is usually quite a problem for most shops.
You "may" want to reconsider your options...

Re: re-profiling VP Duo's

Thanks Kenny

This is my backup set which we think are a set of "test props" (no VP P/N's on them) and are probably B6's but we don't know for sure. I bought a new set of B5's this spring and they made a world of difference to the performance of the boat. I was hoping to salvage these old props to keep as spares if we can get some pitch out of them. Maybe I'll put them up for sale on e-Bay and get another set of B5's.

I appreciate your time and expertise.

If it's just a back-up set, and not for everyday use, let'em drop the pitch if ya want them for spares only...Just keep in mind, they aren't worth as much once you've had the blades changed in that manner.
