RE: Pulling outdrives

I will definitely start pulling off my drives every year. What, if anything, should be changed annually? Charlie,What should I inspect after removing them?

The water pump impeller should be changed each year (cheep insurance). The bellows and gimble bearing should be checked.

Clean and grease the ujoints, change the impeller and inspect the impeller housing.Be careful not to forget the tiny oring between the drives.Make sure you change the gaskets on the drain plugs.Be certain to remove the old gaskets, they may be stuck to the drive.I would only use synthetic oil in the drive.Place your hand inside the drive bellows and put 2 fingers on the gimbal bearing and turn it.It must move as smooth as silk.Grease every fitting you can find and check the folds in the bellows for any cracks. If you see any cracks at all you must replace it.grease the slide shift arm.You should probably get a manual and take a read on this section because it is easy to overlook something. You wont believe the feeling of self confidence and accomplishment when you are done doing this servicing.Charlie

Depends on what brand of drive you have. But most of the things suggested should be done. Different models require different things.
