"Almost Ready" Is anything but that. My 1991 Chris Craft 254 Seahawk has been sitting for way too long and I towed it to my new home in Mississippi last month. I have been itching to get into it and get it going but I am running inot a big issue. The main issues is bad wiring. Most of the wires taht I have checked out are all black on the conductor and are not making any contact. I can strip them back 6-10 inches and the wires are copper conductors are all black so I am going to re wire the entire boat from front to back starting with the engine compartment. I have a reman Jasper engine that was changed from throttle body efi to straight carb which is fine with me but there are so many wires that are not attached to anything. I plan to pull thm all out with the excation of exactly what is needed for the engine as a whole. IF someone could please point me in the direction to a wiring diagram for the actual engine compartment so I can get working on this facet of "Almost Ready" I greatly appreciate any and all help with this.
Thanks

Go up to the top of the forum in the adults only stickie and I believe there is a generic wiring diagram in there somwhere. Good luck and post back!

Re: Re-wire entire boat.

What brand of motor are you replacing, Mercruiser Crusader, other? I assume Mercruiser since you posted here.
I'd get a harness for the brand and current model motor you are installing. ie. if you are replacing a Mercruiser efi with a carb Merc, just get a carb harness.
If you are really good at wiring and want to make your own fine, but get tinned wire and follow the diagrams. The tinned wire has solder all through it to slow down the corrosive effects of marine use. Here is a link to the color codes http://www.goldstarmarine.com/techtipsPdf/ABYC WIRING COLOR CODES.pdf
The harness will actually give you a lot of time savings and it's already color coded to the gauges and switches.
You are going to need the manual too, find a link or a real Mercruiser manual. Seloc and Clymer are useless junk, don't waste your money. They don't have enough detail and they have some downright errors.
