I have a '76 Mercruiser 1150, and one of the wires is broken right at the distributor. Can this be disassembled to rewire it, or am I SOL?

I have seen very few done successfully as the wiring is also rotten inside the potting compound.......

Did you break into the wiring and fix this? I’m in the same boat, on my 850, with wires frayed and sheared at the distributor exit. Thinking that if I melted away the black “stuff” (wax?), I could connect new leads rather than buying a new part or waiting for my Geri-rig to fail.

Thanks.

FWIW: There is No such motor as a Mercrusier 1150.

Which Wires are you talking about, Primary Wires, or the High Tension Wires?
