Re: reading serial number

If it a force, the year is in the model number, model number will be something like 507x90d (mine) 50 is horse power, 7x not sure what this is :D , 90 is the year, and D is the version A,B,C, or D, version, if it's a chrysler all I know is that the I.d. plate is under the carb, but I'd bet it's similar, since they made Force, untill Merc bought them out ( ie if you think it's somewhere between a 79 and 85 year model and there's a 82 in the model number, its likely to be an 82 model since they didn't make an 82 horse power) . Hope that helps.

Re: reading serial number

ok so i went and looked for a tag. found one by the carb all i know fer sure is it's a 55 hp chrysler. i got model 559bg serial number 3082. those are the numbers 'sept fer the hp @blah blah rpm. so umm what do i have and are they any good? how bout parts. available readily or not???? oh and also the only water i see coming out for cooling i presume is a hole about hlafway down the leg. approx 3/4 of an inch id. but it's a splashy spray not a stream. is that normal??? i see no other outlets. the head gets warm, uncomfortable but no major burns. also how to check for rpm? i mean how do i hook up a tach?

motor is from 1976. Rebuild kits, impellers and basic stuff is still availible. Ignition parts can be tough to find. A motor is only as good as its owner. It it has good compression and spark it should perform well for you. Mine is from 1967 and I have had it for 10 years will minimal problems.
