I just purchased my first boat and the lettering has faded and I am unable to identify which button goes to what. I would like to know the control panel where the horn, bilge pump etc panel is, in what order are the switches.

pretty simple..... play with each one till you figure it out and label accordingly.. prolly take just a couple minutes.... Nobody can really tell you for certain.... in the 16 years since the boat was new they could have been moved more than once

EDIT: don's suggestion about wire colors sounds pretty good if trial and error doesn't work for you.

Write down the size & model of your boat.
Go to a Bayliner dealer.
Make a simple drawing of all the gauges ( how many in each row ) . Ask them to to tell you what each one should be. :)

Go to this link, http://www.baylinercustomercare.com/ at the top of the page click on owners manual supplements.
Follow the links to your 1700 Capri and download the manual.
On the last page is a wiring diagram. A quick glance under the dash should let you identify the color code on the wires to the different switches and fuses.
It handy if your switches don't work because something is broken, light burned out, corroded wiring or whatever.

I just picked up one of these boats too, and my dash is also faded.
Mine is a 1995, but if you have the same one as I do, the buttons should be like this from left to right.
1. Horn
2. Bilge pump
3. Nav lights
4. Anchor light
5. Instrument lights
6. Accessory

I had the same issue when I picked up my 99 Bayliner 1950 Capri... I figured it out by trial and error and found a picture online as well from the link someone else posted.

Here's the order for my boat, which may or may not be the same for yours.

Left to Right

1. Accy
2. Blower
3. Bilge
4. Anchor Light
5. Nav Light
6. Horn

Good Luck!
