I got this 1983 35 hp 2 stroke Evinrude I bought with no spark and after 2 weeks and lots of new parts STILL NO SPARK, Everything under flywheel new, new power pack, new coils and wires and checked small 1/2 in. fuse. Ready to kill the neighbors cat. Im looking at rectifier wires and where they go. Im confused there. Thinkin somebody moved them. I got a photo but can't figure out how to put here for u to see. Would somebody please help this old man?

Have you done any trouble shooting or just spending money on parts that are not needed ??----Factory parts or something else.----The rectifier does not make spark.----I would have the battery load tested.----I would take the starter motor apart for inspection and ohm test on armature.----No beer tokens spent to do those steps.

You use this button to post a picture. After pushing it, it takes you to pictures on your phone....scroll through them until you find the pic you want and then post it.

btw when you did have it mounted on... did it turn fast and spin the FW ?

what 4 wire block "there is a block with 4 posts for wires" are you referrering to ?? are you referring to the "terminal block" in the picture below ??

looks like the engine has a 3 phase rectifier. each yellow supply is 1/3 of the FW generated AC. Each phase is 120 degrees apart making up a 360 degree . ( a full AC sine wave has 360 degrees) each yellow gets rectified out has DC to give you 12v to "chargeback" the battery via the post on the solenoid where an extra feed is fused to run things like accessories , choke and solenoid's inner winding during START.

3 Yellows on the block can be mixed with no effect since each one will be rectified (aligned) with the 2 other ones to give out 12vdc

see typical "remote" wiring . tiller version would have a push button to
energize the solenoid on the yellow-red wire post

starter's usually have 1 or 2 wires one comes from the solenoid OUTPUT with B+ 12 volts...

the other post/wire if you have one would be the ground post wired to the engine frame common ground ....otherwise the starter is grounded via it's mounting bolts .

post a picture if possible.

yes that is the terminal block. if the wires are not put on correctly could that be a reason not to show spark? I have the started all torn apart now.

The rectifier has to do with charging the battery.-----But check all wiring.----Wiring can be confusing to many people.

just join up individual FW yellows to rectifier yellows as per drawing the RED is the DC sent back to the solenoid post in the drawing.

has explained by Racerone...this is separate from ignition-starting issues .

if you have key start? make certain key is ON otherwise yellow-black will kill the ignition. beyond that ...could be several things...bad key chaffed wires etc... see if poking wiggling wires does anything when starting...after you get the starter back on.

if not familiar with all this stuff maybe shop time may be needed.

Shop time is $125 per hour. I never made that kind of money and don't plan on paying it at 77 years old. But I need your help here. Patience with me, I'm old

no sweat hopefully yu can get it going..great hobby. I am old to not far behind.

post your engine model # so we all know what we are dealing with.

btw did you ever check compression because all the time and money on parts won't be worth it if the innards are shot. Best to do thestarter and reinstall . maybe some utubes can help you

here is one of many

I did not see this presenter do a 10 second ohm check on the armature.----Or install new $6.00 brushes.-----Makes me wonder !!

This video is a little better in my humble opinion....shows how to make the brush holder while you assemble. Saves the cost of buying one plus the other guy didn't explain or aline it properly.

Cheers
