i use a nylon three strand buffer to do all my polishing.......this gives me the equivelent of 1700 grit sand paper.

for a final wax....i use foam applicators.......the trick is to keep the pad clean

Polishing and/or glazing is somewhat of a hands on thing..some like to use foam..some not..some like to use slow speeds..while others higher speeds.

Its whatever works for you, your boat, your arms ;) , and pocket book.

Personally..I like to polish with a polish pad from 3m ( yellow one ) here.. http://multimedia.mmm.com/mws/mediawebserver.dyn?6666660Zjcf6lVs6EVs66S&FZCOrrrrQ-

I also like to start at a lower speed with a bit of pressure..working the polish around. After about the 2nd pass I like to bump my buffer up to a Higher speed ( like 2500 or so..) but with almost no pressure at all untill most all of the polish is removed from the hull.

Polishing is an art .. you need to get How much polish on the pad vs. how large an area your doing vs. how fast you need to work ( IE heat,humidity..basic climate conditions, how thursty your gel is etc ).

You should try all recommended ( and sometimes not recommended ) ways.

Im tellin ya..you will get in the "zone" when you feel comfortable with the product"s" and the outcome..play with all available options :) ..

Its a Zen thing :) .

YD.
