Ok, One last question(I hope) before I put in the first gasket. Picture below are the exhaust port plate, exhaust port cover, a the gasket that goes between them. On the first picture with arrow are pointing to a center ridge spanning the length of the plate. When I was cleaning off the old gasket there were bits and pieces stuck to the center ridge. However, the gasket I have only covers the perimeter. So, do I have the correct gasket?
I understand what the exhaust plate does, but what is the purpose of the cover, and why do I even need a gasket? Does water circulate in there to help cool the motor?

That all for now:)
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Ready to install

Were the bits and pieces actual gasket material or an rtv like sealant? I have seen a white sealant used in exhaust areas that seemed to be original?

I'm not completely sure, it was black in color and looked like the same material as the gasket. Maybe I should buy some rvt and apply it to that area.
