Alright guys, I have been going back and forth on this whole scenario a LOT. I have the boat/trailer already obviously.

I know for sure I will be doing floor/stringer/transom and some hull repairs along with new 2 part foam.

I have the skill, tools and can make the time. The real question is whether or not its really worth doing! I am attached to the boat because I never got to use it to its fullest extent.

I am not so much worried about resale, but if I spend an exorbitant amount of money on it to make it nice I had damn well better make sure that its going to be the right boat for me in the long run....

So what do you guys figure a realistic price figure is in materials for a 14' resto? If I do this, I am going to paint it too.

Thanks everyone.

One thing you left out - do you plan on using epoxy resin or polyester? Big difference in price.

I am going to think long and hard before diving head first into this project, not sure on the resin. I would probably do epoxy. If its worth doing, its worth doing correctly.

I am seriously considering donating the boat for a small tax writeoff, waiting for fall and grabbing something a bit larger at the end of the season. I would love to have something capable of watersports.

I went through the same decision a few months ago, is the old hull worth the expense and effort to fix; floor, stringers, foam, transom...

Not in my case, I gutted the hull and found another boat in good condition that my running gear would fit into. Got a 2001 theft boat that was a good candidate for my running gear. My rebuilt engine and drive are going into the boat and the interior is also being rebuilt at the same time, seats, decks, flooring. I'm hoping to get out of the project for $2K... Wish me luck :D

there is your answer.....you want a boat that will be capeable of water sports.....(a 14 footer will) but you want a different boat....there is some good deals out there....especially in the fall....if you step up 2 17-19 feet....you can do anything with it......

btw....nothing wrong with poly.....epoxy is way...way...overkill for a 14 footer.

Re: Realistic budget for 14' chrysler boat restoration?

Thanks guys, sorry for the late updating. Its been nothing but theory until yesterday. I am up at my families place in northern WI and have gotten an opportunity to see what I am working with. Registration says 96', I bought it in 94' and used it for exactly one summer.

Donating a POS waterlogged boat just seems like something I can't bring myself to do. Seeing the boat again makes me want to keep it.

I am going forward with this project. I am going to try to keep it as bare bones as possible to keep costs down, while still using quality materials where they need to be.

OOPS, thanks for the advice on the resin. I am sure that will save me a ton of cash.

The current condition says; good trailer with bearing buddies and good tires (after I replaced one). Not rusty. The hull looks good with minor scuffs etc. Very little glass work on the actual hull itself. The cap is broken in the rear where a tree fell on it. No pieces missing, fast fix there.

Floor is not soft, but should be. Transom is soft at the bottom, and not the top. The transom is sagging back from the boat in the center, where the softness is. It also has a hook in the rear that looks like I will be able to fix it (see my trailer thread on that deal).

Game on fellas!

Thanks for everyones help and insight, I felt very well prepared looking at this boat to assess the situation!

bare bones just replacing the transom floor and stringers, no paint no new seats none of that kind of stuff on a 14 footer can probably be done for the 5-600 dollar range.
