Hello,
Still having top-end issues with my 1990 Evinrude 90 hp. Mechanic rebuilt the powerhead and carbs over the winter; I've had the use of the boat about 4 days this summer; 4 trips back to his shop (it's there now and has been for most of the summer). Yesterday we scheduled a lake test for today; now he's saying "Call me first; we're really busy."
Since then I've called another shop and they can look at it. I gave him the symptoms of no high end power and missing. He said they can put it on their dyno and should be able to diagnose it within an hour.
If my mechanic blows me off on the lake test today, I'm going to pick my boat up anyway and bring it to the other shop. Four times back without any improvements is not acceptable, and making excuses like "we're really busy" is definitely not acceptable, given the amount of time he's had my boat and the amount of money I've spent. Therefore, I'm going to ask for a refund of his labor and call it square, and I'll deal with someone else. Simply put, I don't think I got my $1800.00 worth.

recover whatever money you can...then move on and find another mechanic....find one that will stand behind his work.

its unfortunate that there a people out there without any honor.people I worked always helped the customer that returned with a problem first if there was any possibility that we failed to resolve the problem,at the very least the guy should immediatly do a spark and compression test, dont count on a refund,he has already proved his reliability.Hope you find a good guy and be sure to find out if the bum ripped you off.You can alwaysthreaten small claims court.Just a thought for you,do you have a fuel water seperator on the boat between the fuel tank and engine,if you do remove the filter and pour it into a clear container,or jar, note if you see water settlement on the bottom,if you dont have a filter, though it may not have anything to do with your problem ALL ENGINES should have one,it can truly save time and money
