Well getting to the point of putting the outdrive together.....boat was a basket case and am getting ready to see if it will float and go....2 previous owners ago over heated everything....and bought a water pump kit.....took the outdrive apart and let it sit and then sold the boat and it sat then I came along and bought it......So I have NO KNOWLEDGE of what it looks like if it was assembled.....I have found out that everything above the retainer p/n 8245191 is missing.....is there a KIT? that would save lots of time and confusing of Mercruiser parts guys....

IF not what was the....17-42836---PIN, Groove, This Part is No Longer Available.......is there a substitute or am I on the road to a new lower unit???

As always all help is appreciated and desired.....

You need two different kits.
The base kit has the base housing and seals to keep the oil in the drive. PN 46-44292A3
Then the upper housing kit. PN 46-96148Q8

You won;t need that 17- pin.

Here is the manual for your drive you can download for free, sounds like you need it.

Re: Reassembling r/rm drive....no water pump base

Thanks Don.

I have had the manual and it has been a valuable tool.....I was not expecting to find the missing W/p base.....when I did I went to one of the numerous sites that have OEM Mercruiser parts diagrams.....the first thing I saw was that one of the parts that looked like it was one that I was going to need was NLA and there was no indication of any KIT from Mercruiser visible on that site.....as I have read here and experienced myself over the years somebody felt there was a need for that piece and engineered it and had them made up and installed and I don't think I am experienced enough to re-engineer the device myself....hence my question about was I through or was there a kit that had that part inclusive.....

as it turned out I was able to find a Sierra kit locally and my w/p issues are I hope resolved....Thanks again

have a new problem and a new post......
