Help! I understand this is a total noob question, but I am...

I can't get my lower unit reattached to my ER 6hp. After replacing the impeller, I can't get the knob stem farther up into the connector than the middle of the screw hole. Even so, the opening between the gearcase and exhaust housing is barely enough to get a screwdriver in.

What am I most likely doing wrong?
Thanks

Not understanding your lingo very well. But I think you need to rotate the flywheel as you push it upward. Give us a better description. Good luck, Mettyfish

Re: Reattaching lower unit

if your shift lever is in forward, try putting it into reverse...pull the shift rod on the lower unit up, this puts it into forward...your rod should now fit into the connector so you can insert the screw and tighten it ....now place the shift lever into forward and it should "pull" the lower unit up into place as you do
