Am I the only one who is sick and tired of all the 'rebates' lately?

How much does it have to be before you actually turn one in? I won't bother unless it's at least $20.

I heard one today on the radio for a whopping $1.00 mail-in-rebate for some headlight offer.

After your stamp, envelope, time to write things out, and gas to take the thing to the post office (in my case anyway)... how much are you really saving?

DIDDLY!

Do people really think they are getting a deal here? What a mind job.
Kinda like the $19.99 deals..LESS THAN $20... Hurry and buy now!

LOL!

I'm on a warpath. Nokia screwed me out of a $50.00 cell phone rebate, and I'm not a happy camper. Oh well I guess.

H.

Re: Rebates

I normally don't do less than $20, but I'm doing a $10, since Best Buy already cut $10 off of the price of a wireless network card.

Like 'em or not, there here to stay.

I once heard that of all items purchased for the rebate, only about 10% are ever sent in.

I have received as high as $200 from Compaq.

Re: Rebates

It's all a mind job. They try to get the comsumer to think they are saving money, when they really aren't by the time you add everything up that it takes to get the rebate.

Same goes for increasing the interest rate on your credit cards...

Two banks I had cards through did this to me.
I called them both immediately on it.
One of them reduced the interest back to normal, but the other did not, so I canceled their card.

I later found out that only a very small percentage of people called about the increased rate. Go figure.

H.

Re: Rebates

It's worse then that.
Last year we bought from Lowes 27 galons of paint and repainted the interior of our home. There was a $5.00 rebate per galon. It was Olympic paint and was $22.00 per galon. We sent all the reciepts and barcodes and all that was instructed to the company. Some months later we still hadn't recieved our rebate. They never recieved anything from us, so they said. After a month of argueing and jumping through all the hoops we sent them copies of the credit card bill and we had a left over can that they wanted the label from, minus the barcode. A month later still no rebate. Another contact revealed they never got what we sent. So we were SOL. My email stated that next year we'll be painting the outside and I'll be sure to never use thier product again. They're ripoffs for sure.

The wife just bought a nice no stick frying pan with a lid. It was thirty dollars with a ten dollar rebate. Having learned we sent copies and retained the original reciepts. It didn't matter the envelope was retuned yesterday marked "Return to sender, Moved with no forwarding address" We'll get House and Home to make this one good, since it's recent.

I have one of those nifty LED pocket Streamlights. I love this thing, but it costs twenty bucks. My first one quit working, no problem, it has a lifetime warranty. I sent it in for a replacement. Waited, then called. They said they never recieved it. I said this is getting to be a common theme with companies. They eventually sent me a new one after I reached the next higher supervisor.

Then there's my $35.00 after rebate Lexmark Z23 printer. The replacement black ink cartride costs $37.00...........I think I'll just buy new printers everytime they run out of ink. I'll donate the next to new empty printer to the High School and write it off on my taxes.... :p

Hmmmm,

What's a stamp today? $.37? If so, mailing that little puppy nets me a gain of $.63, on a $1.00 rebate offer.

I do not shop for rebates. However I do take that into consideration.

Send all of your rebate coupons (and proof of purchase tags) to me. I'll get rich!!!! :D

Re: Rebates

Lol...Djohn...

It costs more than $ .37...consider your envelope, ink out of your pen, and your TIME...
I bet it adds up to more than $1.

I don't shop rebates either, but you always run into them at one time or another.

Skinny...

The next time you send in rebates, send it with delivery confirmation. Let them tell you 'they didn't receive it'
Been there done that...Listen to them find your rebate very quickly.

H.

Re: Rebates

Homerr,

I'll concede. ;)

The envelope is $.01. The ink, $.000001. The effort, $000000. It's a heck of alot more productive than sitting here talking to you, :p or watching the chrome plated crap on TV.

Re: Rebates

The only rebates I do are the instant one's where they take so much off right then.

Re: Rebates

and now we know why rebate coupons have that disclaimer; "We are not responsible for lost or misdirected mail."

One way to ensure that they received it is pay extra and ask for proof of delivery, then sit tight and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ;)

Oh well I guess.

Whats screwed Daddy?

That might make this post out of the lines.
Just returning the favor. ;)

Re: Rebates

Kb Nokia did the same to me, have called and called. Finally got someone who told me that I had waited to long to call them about it. I told them I had been calling for about 3 months and this is the first time I ever got to talk to someone. Then when I asked for there name I got disconnected. So sorry.

Yea Rick..how'd you like that?

"Let me connect you to the the problem department"
.
.
.

~CLICK~

LOL.

I don't bother calling them since telephone conversations don't guarantee my rights, and they typically end up like your call did.

I always keep in mind when calling customer service: "My attitude is directly proportional to your attitude" Does it work? Not always! :)

I griped via e-mail to Nokia. I still got the run-around.

H.

Huh??, For real??
Being a Dad of three daughters for 27 years, let me help you out here.

Well child, it's a twisting motion like screwing on the lid to your peanut butter or jelly jar.
It's also a slang word for being cheated.
It's also is used to describe something that is broken or messed up.

You remember our talk about slang words right?.......Not being bad words but more like grown-up words, remember?.......
