Rebuild or move on?

Is it worth rebulding a 1986 40HP 2 stroke Yamaha for about $2000? Any advice would be appreciated.

saltwater motor, probably not...freshwater/well maintained, maybe. if everything else on the motor is in great shape and has been maintained, then it might be a good investment. do you need a power head rebuild/new pistons/rings?, is compression bad?

That is a lil' much for that motor don't you think? Especially when you have to get it rebuilt. Your looking about 800.00 to 1000.00 just on the rebuild.
