Was very happy to see my machined power head returned to my boat mechanic and finding machine work and power head assembly was only gonna cost about $750; That includes 4 new .020 pistons/rings and new caged bearings. (upper rod) and gasket set. He claimed lower rod and crank bearings were good.
Not knowing what failed, he is going to rebuild both carbs and recommended new fuel pump. While going through all this, any suggestions on anything else to look for or replace would be appreciated.
Thanks and sorry for long post, Joe
Ive been working with this mechanic for bout 20yrs, and he sounds very confident on the rebuild, which makes me feel comfortable.

Seeing the prices of new and 10-20 year used outboards, Im very happy thinking my rebuild will prob be under $1000. I just want to make sure I cover everything. Im replacing fuel pump, water pump and carb rebuild.
Anything else? thermostats?, Fuel isnt too old, use last year alot. Was thinking of pumping it out, Is that good idea?

change tstats, water deflectors, get rig of gas. you want to start with new gas on a new rebuild, and double the oil.

Don't forget about the proper break in period.

Double the oil? I currently mix 50-1 ratio. So like 30-40 to 1 during break in?
I will check my oem manual

750 for parts, machine work and labor is unbelievable. He's either giving you a bunch of parts for free or hardly charging anything for labor. Just be careful.
