OK...i need someone to decide for me. I want to know if it is worth rebuilding a motor myself or buying a rebuilt powerhead with a warranty. I know more than average on rebuilding motors but I am not a pro. Its a evinrude 150 hp and i think i found one for around $2000 dollars with a 1 year warranty. I did some pricing on parts and just the pistons alone will be near $500 dollars. I just don't want to put it back together and get 15 miles off shore and have the engine fail. Any input would help!!!

Shaun...I think the warranty says it all, as long as the p/h comes from someone you can trust to take care of any problems and help with any setup questions and problems...just a Thought

Shaun,

At the rate of $500 for pistons, how much do you expect will be replaced, checked, and machined for $2K, including labor and warranty? Personally, I like to know what the motor looked like when it wore out or blew up, what caused the failure, and what went into the motor to restore it. I doubt that you'll get that knowledge with the "rebuilt" powerhead.

Just another thought.
