I currently have a 10 foot inflatable, but Im looking to upgrade to a 10 or 12 foot aluminum, or fiberglass. It seems like boats in that size either arent rated for my 1975 Evinrude 15hp, or are out of my pricerange.

My dad has an old hourston glascraft, measures 10 feet from transom to bow. It needs alot of work, which Im not afraid to do. He would probably give it to me. The transom looks rotten and its had a tree limb fall on it, but Im not asking if its worth doing the work.

My question is, what would a boat this size be rated for HP wise? The transom tag is long gone. And if Im in there doing transom and fiberglass work already, can I build it stronger in any way to take a 15hp? Id estimate the motor weighs 60-80 pounds. Pretty much, if there is a way to build it to take my 15hp, I will go ahead. But if there isnt, Im not gonna bother. I have experience with fiberglass but not with boat building/repair.

Cheers!
