Rebuilding engine, need to know what year/model

Hi guys, I am in the process of rebuilding my 20 hp mercury, with thunderbolt ignition. This is the serial number: 05411502
Can anyone tell me what year and model I have so I can buy the correct parts?

1979...is it elec. start or rope start? Long shaft or short shaft?

A Mercury dealer would insist on the serial # in order to get you the right parts.------Your motor is a 1979 model.

Very few aftermarket parts for this engine, mainly gaskets and water pumps items as rest will need to be OEM..

Ive got one more question, why when i put the serial number into the mercury database does nothing come up? It can't find my serial number.

Try eliminating the "0" in front of the serial number. Just use 5411502.

Thanks, I decided to part it out. All parts are available except lower unit if anyone wants some parts.
