well i rebuilt the carb replaced points impeller and others now she runs great ! my next thing is how high should i raise the motor up the plate above the perpeller is way below the bottom of the boat maybe is supposed to be that low dunno ??

cavitation plate should be within 1 inch of the bottom of the boat. most people prefer it about 1/2 to 1 inch above the lowest point.

Careful with the older ones though. The water pump is not great at priming so you need the water level when the engine is at idle to be up around the seam where the water pump is, and certainly higher than the bypass plate on the side of the lower unit above the cav plate. Just make sure she's drawing water alright at idle.<br />Once you pick up speed water is forced into the pump through the pickup screen by the propeller, so that's not a problem.<br />If it's anything like the older Johnny/Rude Big Twins, you'll want to put it up a couple inches higher than standard.<br />It's good to hear you've got it running so well.<br />Good luck, and have fun with it! :)
