Now I know this may seem like a stupid question to ask and I think I already know the answer but here goes my question.

I rebuilt all 3 carbs on my 85 xr2 150 Sunday. I thought it went well and really smooth. After test running the motor and resetting the idle and syncing the carbs it seemed all was well. But come today wanted to drop it in the water so I did a quick pre run with it at home and low and behold my middle carb cylinder number 3 started puking gas out of all of its orfice. So i shut it down and gave up for the day. I believe it's just a stuck open needle does that seem right to any one. I have all new gaskets and internal components from a quick silver rebuild kit put in. or could it be something else causing my new found issue.

Any input would be nice good bad or indiferent Thanks

Sorry didn't mention that when I rebuilt the carbs I also replaced all the fuel lines, new fuel filter, and even the enrichment lines to all the carbs. The only thing that i didn't do with the fuel that i can think of is tear down the fuel pump and clean and rebuild it. I am going to tear the one carb back down and try to blow any and all crud out of it and hope that that might work.

Thanks J Martin

Check that you didn't leave any gasket material on the needle seat when you replaced it. An old gasket in there can be hard to see and will cause your symptom.

OK all is good on the carbs no leaking no over over flowing fuel it idles well at 750 in gear and about 1000 in neutural. Now all I have is no power at about 3300 rpm it just wants to bog out. Now I have a prop with a 21 pitch on this motor that I have never run before but I was told that it sould be fine it is not stainless steel. I have also have never played with the timing nor do I have the tools to check it. could this be a timing issue with the motor. I have a 17 pitch prop from another lower unit that I could try but I would really like to get out on the water with this thing running right. Is there an easy way to set the timing my service book from merc is to genaric with not a lot of information. Any one have an idea as to what I could do.

Thanks
Marc
