Rebuilt Powerhead

So I bought a 1990 Bayliner Capri with a bad motor. Upon disassembly I found it had broken the crankshaft in 2 pieces. Damaging the engine case in the process. I took it to two machine shops. Both pretty much said it was time for a new powerhead. Which brings me to my question. Where can a find a rebuilt or remanufactured powerhead for a 1990 force 50hp?

first, welcome aboard

second, check your local yellow pages for motor rebuild shops

it would be cheaper to buy a complete and running motor

I’ve been to two rebuild shops. The cost alone makes this prohibitive I’ve been searching the last week for a new motor. And calling every boat shop in a two hour radius. Nobody has a used motor. I’ve also been looking at getting a second boar just for the motor. No luck there either. It’s the middle of summer, I guess everyone is out using their boat.

Check out Ebay or Craig list or similar.
I would suggest as you are trying to find a wholebad engine. It would be a lot of engine out there with a bad LU.
Power heads from Chrysler 45, 55Hp and Force 50Hp will fit.
Using a Chrysler power head you have to put the adapter plate from you engine to the Chrysler power head.

in addition to the motor, since your boat is a mid 80's / early 90's bayliner, did you check the transom and stringers for rot prior to buying the boat?

I ended up rebuilding the motor myself. Total cost of parts $600. Transom and stringers were in great condition. Redid upholstery and carpet. Put about 7 hours on the motor during 6 trips to the lake. Found the boat to be a little small for my family. Sold it for a sweet $3500 profit. Bought a four Winn’s. So I’m rebuilding that now.

Where did you buy the parts?
