I have the carb rebuilt. Mercarb 2 barrell and it salves my no idle problem. I now have a 2 concerns.
1. I need to set the mixture what is the default setting?
2. when I give it gas it on the way back down it stops at 1800 then contenuies down?

I went in and back out two rounds. The engine purrs.. I have the idle at 575-625 is this good or too low?

The tick tock is still there when I shut her down but not any worse then my truck so i would think it is normal and the temp gauge is reading around 140-150 when running.

The idle should have the final set in the water with a warm engine and in gear 650 is good.

There is no default setting. The two turns out you have is a good starting point, but then you need a vacuum gauge and a tach to truly set the mixture. If you don't have a vacuum gauge go ahead and invest in one. They are cheap - and generally come with some generic guidelines for doing things like setting carb mixtures. ;)

That pause is usually a good indication of a vacuum leak. But it could also be be the advance weights in the distributor hanging up a bit as the springs pull them back in. You can check that with a timing light, see if the timing advances then comes back down evenly or pauses there as the throttle is opened and closed.

I hav tbolt 5 ign. So there is no springs in my dizzy. I had the hesitation twice. The first time was when I just put it on and then once afterwards When I adjusted the mixture it went away so i think that is solved a sea run this weekend will tell...

ok. So, no more pause but now the tock sound happens every onces in a while, while idleing would a lean mixture cause this? I have ordered a vaccum gauge and will test with that monday when it gets here...

ps. I took the belts off to the acc and it is not them... When i put my hand on the heads I can feel the tock when it happens.. It is coming from both heads. And this knock was not present before the carb work...

Solved the problem.

Carb was so lean it was causing the knock and the tick tock. The new air mix screw was not seating right. I took it off and put the old screw on... just ran it for about 30 mins at 160 deg and no tick tock when I shut it down no knock while running and throttle response better then before
Idle bounces between 625-672
