Last night I rebuilt my leaky Mercruiser trim cylinder. Although it was very simple, I have a question. What can I use to seal the threads on the end cap? The manual calls for some Mercruiser sealant. Can I use Indian Head sealant that you use for head bolts? If not, what should I use?

Tony, Permatex #2 is the black, thick non hardening stuff. It does a good job protecting threads from salt watter corrosion. I use it on waterpump, manifold and riser bolts. It is thick enough to affect torque readings though!

I would use nothing. No water is going to
pass the o-ring.
I have rebuilt 200 tilt cylinders, and have never
seen sealer on any. Or any rust.
