My 1986 2.5 liter OMC Cobra (Rinker boat) has decided to stop letting me raise & lower the prop. When I push the switch, it clicks back there, but nothing else. The problem began out of the blue--it wouldn?t go down; however I ran the boat for a bit in the raised position; then it agreed to go down. However, when I tried to put it up again, it went up a little, then stopped. That?s all she wrote. Any clue what the problem is likely to be? Thanks...

'86 was the last year for the Stringer ... I want to make sure you actually have a Cobra (think they started 'em that year). 'Cuz the tilt system is way different on those two. You have the rams on your drive (dark grey colored drive)? Or the quadrant gear (white drive)?

My (presumably original) manual says it's a Cobra, Southkogs. I bought it used a couple years ago, and it came with that manual. I'll check the colors when I get a chance later today, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is. As I recall, it also says "Cobra" on the engine.

So mine does appear to be a Cobra. One other clue--It makes a single clicking sound when I attempt to raise or lower the prop. Does anyone have any idea what is likely to be wrong, and what would be involved in fixing it? I wonder if it's worth fixing on this old craft...

The Cobra tilt is a fairly good system.
The solenoid might be bad?
Test light and have someone on the switch.
Hook up the light and have someone operate the switch.
If you have power on both sides of the up/down solenoids then the electric motors bad.
Try switching the leads around.
Blue is up.
Green is down.
