Rechargeable flashlights Bletch!

I like having a high powered flashlight (spot light) handy here on the farm and have had a bunch of the rechargable million plus candle power type but they just don't seem to last more than a few months at best, even had them die after a single month. Die as in recharge them and they are dead with just a few seconds use.

Looked at replacing the batteries a couple times and *if* they can be replaced they cost more than a new light. :(

Anyone have a suggestion on one that actually lasts say a year? Heck, I'd just love to have one where the bulb burned out before the batteries do.

I have given up on rechargeable flashlights for the same reasons. I use L.E.D. flashlights and alkaline batteries....last a long time.

I've also tried several rechargable spot lights with the same results. It's tough when you want a portable one to rely on. I live out in the 'boonies' and they are a must if I have to go anywhere away from electricity on the property.

The only lights that have been decent for me as far as rechargable goes, are the dewalt, mekita and milwaukee tool lights that have the XTC lithium ion batteries. Usually found in the tool kits. They aren't high powered spot lights though. The only really bright spot light was the dewalt DC509 36v system with the lithium ion batteries. I use these at work sometimes, but they are no where near the lumens of a big spot light.

I'd get about 4 hours from the tool lights on a charge. I've had all mine for about 5 years or so.

I've had several of the Maglight MagCharger Halogen rechargable flashlights. They are real flamethrowers and they have adjustable beams, as well. The trick is to not leave them on the charger all the time. It gives the batteries a memory that causes 'short legs'. I have had battery packs last for years.

Know what you mean. I've run into the same problem with rechargeable spots. I have 3 1 or 2 million cp spots that were entertaining when they worked but only lasted about 1/2 hour on a charge and gave up taking a charge fairly early in life.

I got the Coleman spotlight in the link at a boat and tackle show this winter. I haven't really tested it because I keep forgetting to take it out in the country at night. I did shoot a pretty tight beam on a building about 150 yds away from my deck one night. I'll make myself a note to go out to the lake tonight and test it at about a half mile. Let you know.

I'm with you, they never seem to last. I didn't realize this was a widespread complaint. I liked the million cp one I had last, but after it died, I haven't replaced it yet for just that reason.

I have one in the boat that has a 12v plug & coiled cord & runs off the battery.

Re: Rechargeable flashlights Bletch!

Remember a few years ago HD used to carry the big heavy yellow rechargeables? I used one every day for 3 years. When I had to replace it, the new ones would last maybe 2-3 months, but they were lighter. I think frequent use helps, but I believe that in the fight of longevity vs weight-management, weight won.

I currently have the really lightweight "workforce" HD cheap-o, and it's going on 2 years old. I keep it plugged in, and never let it die completely.
