After more years than I can count my favorite all in one pocket tool kit is kaput. (I broke one handle.) It came to me as a gift 20 or so years ago so I recon I got the good out of it and don't mind buying a replacement but I can't find anything about the company that made it. (Elgin Tool Works I think they are gone or bought up by someone else.)

So, I'm looking for recommendations from anyone that has one they use regularly and like it. I want something that will last the same length as the old one. :)

(Yeah, I feel lost without it.)

My son is a crew chief in the Air Force and is particular about his tools. He swears by his leatherman.

I pull my Leatherman out 15-20 times a day. Lifetime warrantee has replaced my over exuberant uses three times.

I have tried them all but this is the one I like the best http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gerber-Pr...edlenose-Multi-Tool/16523835?findingMethod=rr I like the way the needle nose pliers come out with just a flick of the wrist. The diamond tipped saw blade will cut through anything ( I have cut a padlock) This thing is highly functional and just about indestructable. This thing is quick on the draw and beats Leatherman when accessing the tools.

My original Leatherman is #1 "pocket" tool. . .worn on my belt for about 30 years. I also have a Leatherman Jr. in my tackle box.

I have 2 sizes of Swiss Army Knife. Use the scissors regularly.

I have friends who swear by their Gerber multitools.

There are many knockoffs made of inferior steel. That goes for the multi tools as well as the knives. Be sure to get the correct brand: Leatherman or Swiss Army.

Regardless of what people recommend..... it will be a learning curve to go through with ANY new to you one.

I use a simple leatherman which is 20 years old and not many bells and whistles but, I can use it in the dark, it is great for what I use it for and is a manageable size.

The newer tools are larger and stuffed full of "uses" ........ somewhat over designed in my opinion.......many blades that are never used. I would get one that fit's only the common needs.

I vote for Gerber, Leatherman and SOG Have you checked http://www.midwayusa.com and walmart online?

I like the KISS (keep it simple stupid) for my multitools and I have never witnessed any arguments on whose multitool has more gizmos!!!

Re: Recommend a "pocket tool kit".

I've been using the Gerber that bigdee has (several versions of it due to dropping them overboard, giving them to buddies, etc.) for years and have always been really pleased. Like him, I love the ability to open them with one hand while I have a fish or something in the other. I've always been suspect of the pliers since the one handed open design requires that they have some play, but I've never had any durability issues with mine. Really can't go wrong with Gerber or Leatherman.

I have a big leather man in my tackle box, a mini one on my key chain(use at work all the time) and a Gerber 3" seratted knife I've used at work for 3-4 years - they all are great quality!

I was in the army. When I was deployed to Iraq in 2007 they issue us a slide out gerber multi tool. We used those for everything. Best tool I've ever had.
