Re: Recommend me a bilge pump
Rule pumps are good, no doubt about it.
When I did research on which pump to buy for my boat, I found the Attwood 750 gph w/float switch was rated better than the same capacity Rule.
The reasons I went with the Attwood pump over the Rule are:
- pump tests show the Attwood actually pumped more GPH using less amperage. So the pump will run longer. A nice plus if you moor your boat or leave it anchored over night and you are not there.
- Full tinned wire is now standard on the 750 gph and larger Attwood pumps (it wasn't when tested).
- Pumps 750 gph open flow, and 625 GPH at 3.3' head through 3/4" hose outlet. The GPH at 3.3' of head is important, and it beat the competition.
- Was rated best for durability.
Its not the cheapest pump in its class, but I wanted the best rated.
BTW, at the time of the test, which was a few years ago, the only negative was that the pump did not have tinned wire. They now do. I didn't save a link to the report, wish I had. If you search the web, you can find the report, lots of good info in there.
Also, if you have the corrugated hose on the existing bilge pump, consider replacing it with smooth wall tubing because the corrugated stuff cuts down flow considerably. Marine water supply hose is strong and smooth wall and very thick. Also, plain clear hose found at the home center will work too. Just be sure it does not get bent enough to cause partial collapse or kinking.
