I've done a lot of googling and have not been satisfied with the results. I'm looking for a recommendation for a cooler (chill pad) that will work well for a desktop used laptop.

There are a lot of them out there and I saw a few of them at Office Depot and Best Buy but they all seem to short on description of features and operation.

Being as Mrs WO's Dell laptop only has two USB ports and one of them is used by the mouse, I would like a cooler that has additional ports. Hopefully they would all be USB powered as I would like the whole shepang to shut down when you shut the laptop down. We are short of available electrical outlets to power this thing.

It should also be thin and quiet.

Any experience w/ links or names out there?

Just out of curiosity, what is making you think you need a cooler to begin with?

The Mrs. Dell laptop runs pretty warm and it is on a good part of the day. I've read that these coolers are good for the longevity of the laptops.

Re: Recommendations for Laptop Cooler?

I have a Dell laptop that was on from when it was purchased in 2003 until last December when it was replaced with a new Dell laptop. It was used as if it were a desktop and it's never overheated and still works as well today as it did in 2003. I haven't had a "desktop" since I bought it in 2003. Laptops are my desktops - my new one upstairs, my old one in the downstairs den, and my netbook in my garage/shop area.

One caveat - always run them on a hard surface like a table, board, book, etc. Don't ever run them on anything that will impede air flow, like a blanket, pillow, etc. Also, note where the air intake/exhaust are located and always be cognizant of their location.

I had a Dell Inspirion I passed to my wife. I have the habit of blowing out the ports and vents with canned air...... sometimes it is surprising to see what comes out!

Ok, Ok, I get da pictcha. Just another gimmick, huh? The Mrs. does use the Laptop as a PC and it does sit on a glass sheet. I'll check the vents and go after them with my can'o'air!

Get her one of these, the cooler is a waste IMO...this is far more useful.

That is a really slick modification of a breakfast tray! Kudos to the inventor.

I'm glad you specified chill pad. I was thinking just about any igloo cooler would fit your laptop, except the ones for six packs.

Anyway chill pads do work great especially if you like to sit the laptop on your lap. Your clothing tends to restrict the air flow from the bottom vents. I bought my father a good one a few years ago that had extra usb ports. I think it was a standard belkin product, nothing snazzy.
