First off my deepest condolences to friends and families of Don, he has given me advice that has been invaluable, he is greatly missed. I have a 24 foot Rinker Flotilla I have been re-powering with a Marine Power 5.7 and swapping to a Volvo outdrive DP-M 1.95 gear ratio as Don had recommended. I will use the boat for cruising and occasional tubing, skiing etc. Bot weighs around 3,500 lbs from what I could research. Any advice on which prop might work best, I have seen numbers like C-5, C-6 when looking for them. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

The C5 to C6 range is in the ballpark. If the cruises are short and seeing that you want to tube and ski I would go with a C5 set. A C6 set would probably allow you to tow also, just depends on how strong the 5.7 is. With a 24 footer the C5 is where I would start.

Re: Recommendations for Prop for DP-M 1.95

I switched from a sx-m to a dp-m a couple years back. It also has the 1.95 gear ratio. my boat is a glastron 24 foot with a 5.0 carbed.
I started with a f-5 prop set but had to switch to a f-4 to get with in the max rpm range. I used the F series because i wanted stainless steel whitch has much less prop flex. You will love the dp if you switched from a single prop. Being with in the max rpm range for your engine, is what should determine the prop size.

Saintlee brought up a point that I may have missed, and that is exactly what drive you have. The DuoProp C series is stainless steel for 280DP,290DP, DP-A/B/C . I am not familiar enough with the DP-M designation, it may use the F series stainless and D series aluminum rather than the B aluminum and C stainless.

I do think Saint's experience with the "number" is very telling though, as I believe the number in the series for pitch correlates between all the A/B/C/D/F series props. By this I mean a C4 or F4 depending on your exact drive, may be the better choice of where to start rather than the C5 I mentioned.

In my mind I made the assumption you had a DP-A/B/C drive which use the A or B series aluminum or C series stainless.

My glastron weight dry is around 4500 lbs with a 5.0 carbed engine.
So a 3500 lb boat with a 5.7 (presumably fuel injected ) would start with a f5 or d5 in my opinion.
Just remember to stay within proper rpms at wot.
Good luck

My boat is about that weight (3,500) 22 foot Cuddy with 5.7. It can turn B7's but I prefer to run the B5's as we are usually loaded and towing.

I am not familiar with a Flotilla deck boat, but at 24 feet it just "sounds" heavier than 3,500 :)

AMMO DAWG,

Did we ever find out what drive you have? I have attached a chart of Volvo Penta drive profiles with some specs.

Re: Recommendations for Prop for DP-M 1.95

Thanks for all the outstanding advice, sorry for the slow response been away for a few days. I currently have a Volvo SX-M 1.60, this is really the wrong gear ratio for the boat. I was able to pick up a good DP-SM 1.95 lower unit. Saintlee, you could be right about the weight, very little info is available about the boat, it is a tri-cat design deck boat. I found some other posts from folks who had the same boat and made claims of a 3500 lb empty weight so that is my basis for the weight. We have a place up the street with a truck scale, when I get her put back together I will run it on the scales and see what i get. The engine is a 2006 marine Power 5.7 fuel injected engine I resurrected from a barn and have gone through end to end. Sounds like the F5 might be a good choice for all around performance. Want to get this right cause them props can sure can get expensive. Thank again for the quick responses and sound advice.
