Okay all, tire time. What do you guys run?

My boat is a 2110 Nauticstar bay boat, on a single axel wesco trailer. I am not sure about the weight but I want the strongest tire I can get for it. I found some called Wendi made in China. They were 215x75x14-c and about 80 bucks a tire. Tire guy said all tires are made in China now, go figure. What say ye?

Maxxis.

I don't currently run them but they will be the next tires I get.

I've read good things about Goodyear & Kenda. I did pretty well with Kenda radials on my last boat.

The trailer tire subject gets beat to death every year. There are probably a hundred threads, pages long about trailer tires on this forum. Did you try searching "trailer tires" and read through the thousands of posts. That's where you will be able to get all of the opinions you want.

And the same goes for "best brand or type of engine oil." The search function is your best friend.

Re: Recommendations for Trailer tires

I've had Goodyear Marathons on boat trailers the last 30 years, the only problems I've had is after tires are 5 years old, I've had some dry rotting and had them come apart, looking back that was only an issue with my last set, I replaced with same as they are readily available in my area and I haven't read anything that tells me anything else is better. note: trailer sits outside, I average 3-4 k miles a year on it.

Kumho 857 tires The 205r14 tire is rated 2270# @65psi and is very close in size to the 215/75/r14 (1870# @50psi)it replaced measuring 1/3" taller and the tread/overall width are both 1/3" narrower.

Wooden wagon wheels. Just kidding. I like Goodyear, but other brands have worked also.

Re: Recommendations for Trailer tires

I recently found out I need to replace my trailer tires and it's disturbing how there seems to be so few quality manufacturers. Buying trailer tires seems like a bit of crap shoot. Without spending big bucks on Kumho's or Maxxis, it looks like the best thing to do is get some inexpensive Kenda or Carlisle tires and just plan to replace them with some regularity.

Yes, I second the Kumho recommendation. Unfortuantely for me, they don't make 15" trailer tires as far as I know.

I've only seen 'em in a 'C' class rating... I was thinking about getting 'D's but I'm concerned that they might be too firm. And, it's not real easy to find 'D' rated tires in that size. Not impossible, but most seem to be 'C'.

Does anyone run Akuret tires? I have searched for them and cannot find anything on them.

Replacing mine this spring as well. After a bunch of research I decided to go with Gladiator 205/75r14 tires. There are several trailer tire dealers who personally run these on their own rigs, and I have yet to hear a complaint about them. Also, I paid $55 a tire online. Just another option.

Were you able to use your old rims, or did you have to buy new wheels, too?
