I am new to boating and all it entails. I am an experienced (10yrs and ASE certified) automotive tech, so I know my way around an engine. I have a 1987 SeaRay Seville 19, 19' I/O w/cuddy. It has a Mercruiser 3.0L I-4 GM based engine with an Alpha One outdrive. All seems well with it, however I want to be able to service and maintain it myself. Is there a clearly "Best" manual for this? If so could someone please offer info on where to contact to get one? I have read Clymer, Haynes, Chilton and factory in these forum posts. From an automotive standpoint I've used about all of them and I'm not impressed with any but the factory or "Professional" manuals. With my motorcycle my Clymer seems pretty good, but with my boat, I'd like some experienced opinions. Also is Mercury Marine the same as Mercruiser? Any other useful info for a newbie boater would be appreciated too.

Re: Recommendations on repair manuals

David

Since you are new to the boating scene, a Seloc and a Factory Manual would be good choices. Since you are obviously mechanically inclined, I would opt for the Factory Manual. The Seloc is really for beginning do it yourselfers and offers some tips that the Factory Manual may not. But, you cannot beat the real deal..

Factory Manual
