I just bought a Bayliner that has a 125 Force outboard. I has been sitting for a few years with stabiled gas in it. The gas seems fine but I am going to drain it anyways before starting.

The motor seems in great shape but I was wondering what you would do as far as maintenance or what are some common problems with these motors that can be prevented.

I was planning on replacing the plugs, wires, filters.

The boat has some weakening in the floors. My wife and I plan on replacing the floors (we bouilt our own house so hopefully this shouldn't be that difficult compared to house). The wiring looks great, as does the transom and the interior for the most part. We were able to get it cheap enough that we can afford to do alot of repairs and still come out ahead compared to the cost of a similar boat that is ready to go.

I am new to the boating world but have been building and restoring cars for a couple of decades. I am more than capapble of doing most everything myself as long as I have a decent set of instructions.

Thanks

Re: Recommended maint on Force 125

... any particular year and model? is it a CC, BR, length of vessel? any pics?

start by purchasing a decent Force service manual:

what wires are you referring to replacing? i'd becareful before pulling all your harness wires off your termial strips and o/b.

weakness in deck means the "Boat Restoration" section of iboats will be where you want to research on deck repair/replacement.

as to the tune-up. do a compression test on your o/b. replace the impeller, spark plugs and fuel filters as you mentioned.

good luck and welcome to the jungle

19 ft Bayliner Capri with a 125 Force. The wires I am talking about are the spark plug wires.
