Recommended tools testing compression and spark?

Hello, I am trying to troubleshoot a problem I am having with my Mercruiser 260R no starting when hot - runs fine for 45 minutes and then when in idle it dies and will not start.

I would like to test my compression and spark and was wondering if anyone could recommend their any specific tools they have used. I see a bunch at Napa and Autozone online. But should I look for anything in particular?

I would like to test the spark at each plug and also between the ignition coil and distributor. Anything special I need to look for?

I would like to have a "maximum" value on the compression tester to I can crank the engine by myself and then go see the results. Also need 8 inch extension to get to my sparkplug ports.

Any specific suggestions would be helpful.

Autozone will lend you tools for free, borrow and see how you like them. I believe that their compression tester has the maximum feature.

Bought my compression gauge @ harbor frieght 20 bucks it has three adapters to fitt all sizes and works great! you can also get the spark tester there it's like 6 bucks and it has never failed me on anything. The extensions are @ least 10" long on the compression gauge.
