Hello, i have a 1985 2.5L Sea Drive powerhead that my mechanic says needs a new recifier. Sorry for the stupid question and all, but what exactly does a rectifier do and about how much should it be to replace this part. Thank you for any help you can give. Steve

Re: rectifier on 2.5L sea drive?

The '85 2.5 liter Sea-Drive uses a rectifier/regulator assembly. It changes the alternating current (a.c.)produced by the stator (like the alternator in your car) to direct current (d.c.) that is required to charge your battery and run your lights, puimps, etc.

Part number was 583076, which supercedes to 395204 around $205 plus installation (and probably troubleshooting time too).

-John

Re: rectifier on 2.5L sea drive?

I am in the middle of buying a house right now and don't have the money to put in the boat right now, is this a part that would be easy to order and replace on my own or is fairly difficult to do? It looked as if there were only about 6 screws holding it in? thanks again for your help. steve

IF you have the proper tools to remove and re-install the flywheel correctly AND know how to follow wiring directions. See my quote, below ;)

-John
