Re: Rectifier

In the electronics world, a rectifier changes ac voltage wave forms to dc voltage potential. This is usually done with diodes. I assume your question is based on charging of batteries from the alternator or magneto. Ac voltage is derived from wire or coils passing through a magnetic field. Alternators generate ac voltage by rotating coils through magnetic fields setup by permanent magnets, the recifier turns this ac into dc. No you don't need a rectifer to start your engine but you will need one coupled with a voltage requlator to keep your battery charged.
This is crude but I hope it helps.

SingleShot

Re: Rectifier

If you have a Merc ADI (Alternator Driven Ignition) motor, you do need the rectifier to run the engine.

Hi brandon
You have battery powered cd ignition. You need a rectifier.
