red and black wires?

on 85 hp 87 merc.Can anyone tell me what a small red and blk wires are that are coming from the throttle control and run all the way back through the boat and come into the motor on the right side? They come through a rubber fitting so I wass looking to follow where they go and they are disconnected in the motor. They have/had connectors on them as if they went over a screw on or a post of some kind. I will try to post a pic later.

Tracker, meant to mention this on your other thread but forgot.

Merc did not make an 85HP in 87. Last year for the 85hp was 1977. Important that you know the correct model year when ordering parts.

Post your S/N and we can find the exact model year.

As for the wires, do they look "factory" coming out of the control or user installed ?
All factory wiring on your motor enters thru the big multi-pin harness connector at the side of the motor.
