Hello all.
My motor is a 1991 Evinrude 15 hp. It has the remote controls with the red plug.
Sometimes when you turn the key nothing will happen. I've isolated the problem to the motor side of the wiring harness at the red plug (male side).
I'm pretty sure it's the yellow/red wire loosing contact at the pin connector.
When I apply pressure to the harness just behind the plug: the motor will start. If the harness moves or bends: the motor won't start until I move it again.
I've used an Ohm meter from the pin to the solenoid and the reading will fluctuate indicating something is going on?
Any tips for repair without splicing in a new connector?
thanks
rob

If on your engine, it is the "Yellow/Red" wire leading from the "S" (solenoid) terminal of the ignition switch to one of the small 3'8" terminals of the starter solenoid AND you're sure that there is a fault in the connection of that wire at the large red electrical terminal at the engine.... Professionally splice into that Yellow/Red wire and jump over that red plug, eliminating the connection within the red plug.

Normally that type problem is due to a maladjusted starter safety switch within the control box but your explanation pretty well nails the problem down as you state.

Thanks Joe for your response.
What you suggest seems like the way to go.

Seem you isolated to one pin/plug in the round connector. Is the problem in the pin or plug, meaning is the pin fitting loosely in the mating socket? If that is the reason, take a good needle nose pliers and squeeze the socket a little to tighten it up on the pin and see if that solves all your problems. If the problem is not the actual pin or socket being loose, then you have a wire broken behind either one of them and either go in and repair it, or jumper it like previously stated.
