Red Stator?

Hey...I can't remember if I saw it on here or not, but I got to looking around under my flywheel on a '92 120 hp L Drive and I noticed it had a red stator. Now, I have seen a thread somewhere about this and couldn't remember the details, but, is this a good thing? It had a tag on it that said it was good for a 40-50 hp merc too. It looks as if it has been replaced and wouldn't be causing any problems, as I have good spark. Right!?! Thanks

Here's a link that I found when trying to figure out if mine is 12 or 20 pole. Mine (90hp) has a red stator, I think they're later model replacements that were used on forces and merc's.
