been having problems with my johnson 175 cranking, started fiddling around checking into it and i have found that rhe rectifier which has 2 yellow wires and a red wire coming out of it that the red wire was burnt in half. just what does this rectifier do and will it cause a motor not to crank??? any info will be greatly appreciated

Re: red wire on rectifier burnt in two

the rectifier is part of you charging system. If the red wire is burnt, its likely cause the rectifier has failed, or someone has hooked the battery up backwards (reverse polarity)
This would have an impact on cranking, as the battery will eventually go dead....

>Charge the battery up
>check the rectifier and replace if needed
>check battery polarity to see if connected properly
>replace red lead
:)
