redecking fiberglass boat

i just bought a 1978 hurst bass boat 16ft, im going to re-carpet it but the floor i bad but its not wood, it looks like concrete or sheet rock mud and there are loose chunks. so how do i fix it? thanks

Could you post a picture? are you sure its not fiberglass or something?

ok here are some pics, on the other end i pulled up the carpet and there was a thin "sheet" of fiberglass then plywood.
i have no clue what to do or what to buy

Picture didn't work. Upload it to a site like photobucket or something and then you can just post the link. Maybe some when else can help without a picture, but I am not sure what exactly you are talking about. Try doing a lot of research on this forum, I'm sure you will find a similar situation.

Yup... my guess is concrete backer board w/ mud to hold it down... it looks like someone laid sheets of the backer board... While it is a water proof board, it is very weak and has little flex - once it breaks it comes apart in chalky-clumps like this picture shows.... Def not a marine product - Just My Guess!!

well there is wood under it, i found out. can i just use treated plywood ,then a coating of something to make it waterproof ,then carpet?
