Reed replacement

Hello to all,

I own a 1990 25HP Johnson SS tiller and wanted to know about reed replacement; I'm trying to find out if anyone has experience with Boyesen reeds for that model? I'm trying to get faster throttle response as well as smoother idle. Currently she is running on a 1546 Xpress with an 11 pitch prop (rpm's at WOT are near 5600, but she coughs below 1K rpm's). Not sure if the cough will kill those fiber type reeds, or if they will help the idle smooth out.

Thx

Re: Reed replacement

The cough you hear is a lean condition, that is bad for fiber reed's. Boysen reed's come with full instructions. Just follow the instructions, and you won't have any problem. I would not know what to exspect on the set-up you have. Call them at there toll free no.

I've called the company before, but seem to get blocked by the person answering the phone with regards to speaking with a true technical person. They did mention that the standard install requires you to run a bit richer than normal. Heck it sounds like I may need to richen the fuel mixture already (which should occur first since it's an existing problem).

Correcting the existing lean condition should certainly be done.
