The "BOSS" informed me tonight that our icemaker has stopped making ice. It looks like the fill tube is stopped up with frozen ice. I think the fix is to blow hot air on it with a hair dryer. It is to late to do it tonight but wonder if that is the fix. Also any ides on why it would clog up? Is there some kind of valve that isn't working right? Will attack tomarrow but looking for ideas from folks who have been there and - - - - - .

The first time that happened to us, we had a serviceman out and he replaced the tube -$$$. The next two times, I tried the hair dryer and both times it worked. It freezes up when we have been gone for a while so now we turn the ice maker off when we will be gone for some time.

Mine does not seem to freeze but there are times it runs real slow.

I will never get another one I think it occupies too much space in the freezer.

There are a few things to check out.
Yes,you can use a hair dryer to defrost the tube. But that might not be all that is frozen.
I had multiple freeze ups with our ice maker and the culprit was the selenoid (sp) that regulated the water flow into the ice maker.
This resulted in a big block of ice behind the rear panel. You might want to empty the freezer and remove the rear panel to see if there is an ice build up there.
Also check your defrost heater coils that defrost the freezer.

I'm not a freezer expert, but those are some problems I had with our ice maker and how I solved the problem. Hope this helps you.

Hair dryer.

It is probably freezing from slow flow or from water not draining out of the tube. If you have a hard water problem, there are several places to check. The tube on the rear of the fridge, the selenoid. Most of these use a 1/4 inch copper line from a water line in the house. They use a saddle valve with a small needle to peirce the water line. Once in a while these will seal off with hard water deposits.

I did the old hair dryer trick tonight. The fill tube was blocked with ice which the heat melted. I blew through the line so know that it is clear. We will see what tomarrow brings.

Thanks to all.

Something else to check...had the same thing happen to us. Look under your refridgerator where the drip pan is. You will find the condensor for the freezer/refridgerator. Check to make sure that it isn't clogged up with lint, dirt, fuzz bunnies and other trash. The condensor not being able to disapate the heat will cause the ice maker to freeze up. I try to blow/vacume mine out atleast once a year. You may have to pull the unit away from the wall to and unbolt the backing to get where the compressor and condensor are.

Not related but remember to always drain or dump that drip pan under the bottom of your unit occasionally because it will surely get to stinking up the house if you don't.
